An Anticipated Arrival
The latest edition of the iconic OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch has made its grand entrance, boasting a striking lacquered white dial inspired by space exploration and the collection's rich heritage.
Moonwatch enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting this captivating model since November 2023, when it was first glimpsed on the wrist of OMEGA brand ambassador Daniel Craig at the Planet OMEGA Exhibition in New York. Now, the design is officially unveiled and set to hit the market.
The Moon of the Show
A standout feature of this timepiece is its rare white dial, a departure from the original black-dialed Speedmaster created in 1957. OMEGA's designers have reversed the color scheme for this edition, producing a white dial with black details and a vivid red Speedmaster name, finished with a glossy lacquered surface.
The inspiration behind the white dial stems from the colors of astronaut spacesuits, particularly those worn during extravehicular activity (EVA) like spacewalks. This connection holds significance as the Speedmaster Moonwatch has been worn by NASA astronauts since 1965 and was the first watch worn on the Moon. Additionally, the choice of white dial harks back to OMEGA's 1969 ALASKA I prototype, designed for NASA's secret space watch project due to its effective thermal reflection coefficient.
In addition to the white dial, the watch boasts a 42 mm stainless steel case presented on a vintage-inspired stainless steel bracelet. Two alternative versions are also available, including one with a black micro-perforated leather strap and another with an anti-bacterial rubber strap featuring a moon surface pattern.
For aficionados, the black anodized aluminum bezel of each timepiece features the famous "Dot over Ninety" on the tachymeter scale. Inside, the watch is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, the latest iteration of the legendary Calibre 321 trusted by astronauts during moon missions.
With its blend of heritage, innovation, and space-inspired design, the newest OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch promises to capture the imagination of watch enthusiasts and space aficionados alike.
